The inspiration for this piece …

In March 2020 the pandemic hit and the world seemed to shut down. I felt like everything had come to a screeching halt and I wasn’t sure what to make of it. And then almost immediately Spring started popping up everywhere. I vocally marveled over and over again just how perfect nature is. I was mesmerized at how the earth operated on it’s own schedule, with complete disregard to the circumstances affecting our human world. Flowers bloomed out of the cold ground while we sat paralyzed over a government mandated shut down. It simultaneously blew my mind and gave me hope.

So I started trying to press the plants and flowers I found in order to preserve a little bit of all of it. I collected, preserved and hoarded all my little specimens while watching birds make their nests and bees flit about pollinating away. All of them effortlessly keeping about their business and doing their part to keep life going.

We all had to find ways to cope and this was mine. And as Spring came to a close I took my favorite piece from each plant I collected and put it together into my own personal little wildflower garden. Equal parts chaotic brain, quarantine pause and the perserverant beauty of nature.
